What Is a Commissioner of Oaths?
A Commissioner of Oaths is an official authorized by the Province of Ontario to administer oaths, affirmations, and declarations on legal documents. They confirm that you have sworn or affirmed that the contents of a document are true, usually for affidavits, statutory declarations, or other sworn statements required by law.
What Does a Commissioner of Oaths Do?
A Commissioner of Oaths verifies your identity and witnesses you swearing or affirming the truth of a written document. They then sign and apply an official stamp to confirm the act. The requestor must present original, valid government-issued identification bearing a true and current photograph. Health cards are not accepted as valid forms of identification.
Photocopies, digital images, screenshots, or video recordings of identification documents will not be accepted under any circumstances. Only physical, unaltered originals will be considered valid for verification purposes.
